Hong Kong Metropolitan University

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) formerly The Open University of Hong Kong is the only self-financing university established by the Hong Kong government. It began in 1989 as a distance learning university primarily delivering part-time learning for adults with no previous qualifications. Over time, full-time degree programmes, Masters and PhD programmes have been added, with a greater face-to-face offer. In September 2021, it changed its name to HKMU to better reflect the institution and breadth of offer.

Since 1994, HKMU has licensed OU modules and courses, adapting and translating them to suit local requirements for their awards. The licensed OU content supports HKMU with capacity and reach. It covers a range of subjects such as Mathematics, English, Business, Engineering, Sports & Fitness. The OU will continue to work with HKMU to further develop this mutually beneficial partnership.
