Who is it for?

To achieve this qualification you will be employed in an administrative role with a high degree of autonomy. The diploma is an opportunity for you to develop understanding of and skills in a wide range of administrative activities such as information management, event co-ordination and implementing procedures and systems. You will demonstrate essential business skills such as decision-making, resource management and project management whilst showing how your work contributes to the wider strategy of your organisation or department.

What topics does the qualification cover?

  • Communication in a Business Environment: different styles of communication, planning communications, in a wide range of situations and developing your communication skills.
  • Principles of Business communication and information: including negotiation in a business environment, the development and delivery of presentations, the creation of bespoke business documents and the use of information systems.
  • Principles of Administration: management of an office facility, health and safety in a business environment, supervision of an administration team, event organisation and minute taking, chairing, leading and managing meetings.
  • Principles of Business: knowledge and understanding of business markets, business innovation, growth, sales, marketing, financial management and business budgeting.
  • Manage Personal and Professional Development: identify personal and professional development requirements, fulfil and maintain a personal and professional development plan.

Plus a range of options to choose covering a variety of tasks and skills such as: work responsibilities, bespoke document production, events and meetings, communications, customer service, manage information and data, innovation and change, health, safety and security of people, premises and property, information technology, leadership and management.

Programme structure

You will provide evidence of your work practice, including completing assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio which is available 24/7 on computers, tablets and mobile devices.

An Open University assessor will observe work-based practice on at least one occasion, assess evidence uploaded to the e-portfolio and provide developmental feedback.

You will have access through VQLearner Home to online resources specific to your qualification and links to suggested further study with The Open University.

Support will be provided throughout the qualification by the VQAC Learner Support Team.
