Who is it for?

To achieve this qualification you will be employed in an administrative role and want to develop your skills in providing routine and more complex administrative support. The diploma is an opportunity for you to develop understanding of and skills in more complex administrative support, perhaps supporting meetings and events or retrieving information. You will demonstrate how you work and communicate in any business environment and use a wide range of everyday administrative tasks such as, using diary systems, document production and supporting meetings.

What topics does the qualification cover?

  • Communication in a Business Environment: in writing, verbally, planning communications, in a wide range of situations and developing communication skills through feedback.
  • Principles of Providing Administrative Services: organising meetings, travel and accommodation, managing diary systems, using office equipment and the use of mail services in a business context.
  • Principles of Document Production and Information Management: preparing and distributing business documents and managing information in business organisations.
  • Understand Employer Organisations: organisational structures and the organisational environment.
  • Manage Personal Performance and Development: managing own performance, time and workload. Fulfilling a personal development plan and seeking feedback on performance.
  • Develop Working Relationships with Colleagues: effective team working. maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and working collaboratively to resolve problems.

Plus a range of options to choose covering a variety of tasks and skills such as: work responsibilities, bespoke document production, events and meetings, communications, customer service, managing information and data, working with social media and information technology.

Programme structure

You will provide evidence of your work practice, including completing assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio which is available 24/7 on computers, tablets and mobile devices.

An Open University assessor will observe work-based practice on at least one occasion, assess evidence uploaded to the e-portfolio and provide developmental feedback.

You will have access through VQLearner Home to online resources specific to your qualification and links to suggested further study with The Open University.

Support will be provided throughout the qualification by the VQAC Learner Support Team.
