The Open University and TrainingZone partnered together to run an event in June to inspire organisations to tap into the ambition of their people. The event was hosted by TrainingZone editor Becky Norman and renowned learning analyst Laura Overton.
Inspiring guests from organisations such as The Open University, Uber, the Ministry of Defence, STEP Forward Solutions and The 5% Club joined Becky and Laura in three sessions based on the themes of Attract, Retain and Invest. They discussed the concept of using learning as a benefit to create an organisational culture and learning strategy which invests in workers’ future ambitions for themselves and their families.
Following the three sessions, Laura Overton has written this highlights paper, which looks at some of the key contributions from both the panellists and online audience – offering ideas and inspiration on how a ‘learning as a benefit’ mindset can be adopted and inspire new ways of thinking when it comes to learning and development.
At the end of the paper, Laura offers tips for making these concepts a reality with an opportunity for readers to take notes, brainstorm and reflect on the ideas shared in the session and the findings of the online polls conducted during the day.
Individuals are personally ambitious but how do we tap into that ambition? Ambition is not one size fits all – it looks different for each of us. For some it’s about the destination – growth, fulfilment, family, wellbeing, legacy, value and impact.
For others it’s about the journey – drive, motivation, integrity, celebration and curiosity. The opportunity to learn has the potential to release this ambition, helping individuals connect to their personal purpose and goals.
