The Open University recently partnered with the British Chambers of Commerce to release the Business Barometer 2022. The report outlined the size, nature and impacts of the UK skills shortage and is based on a survey of 1,300 employers from the private, public and third sectors. The survey revealed that more than two-thirds (68%) of SMEs are currently facing skills shortages, rising to 86% in large organisations. This is having serious impacts not only on profitability, productivity and service delivery, but also on the wellbeing of overburdened staff.
Planning for skills has never been more important and it’s time for employers, training providers and policy makers to work together to ensure the skills system delivers for individuals, businesses and the economy.
